Love Promise Stories from Subaru of Spartanburg

Subaru and Subaru of Spartanburg believe in making a positive impact on the communities in which we live and work. We uphold that belief through our Love Promise Community Commitment. Every month, we select inspiring stories from customers and partners from around our area who strive to support our collective commitment and feature them here.

Career day the Subaru Way - Natalia M.

At Career Day at our local elementary school, we had the opportunity to share something bigger than just fixing cars — we shared passion, purpose, and the future of the automotive industry with the next generation. Representing Subaru was an honor because Subaru is more than a brand; it's a family built on love, care, safety, and community. We brought tools, parts, and stories from the shop to show the students what it really takes to work on vehicles every day. The kids were excited to learn how engines work, how technology helps keep families safe, and how teamwork is one of the most important tools in any dealership or repair shop. Many of the students had never seen what goes on behind the service doors of a dealership. Watching their eyes light up while learning about diagnostics, hybrid technology, and hands-on repairs reminded us why mentorship matters. We explained that becoming a technician takes dedication, training, problem-solving skills, and pride in your work — but it also creates a rewarding career where you help people every single day. Subaru's Love Promise is about caring for people and communities, and Career Day gave us the perfect chance to live that promise. By investing time in young students today, we hope to inspire future technicians, engineers, service advisors, and leaders tomorrow. The future of the automotive world is bright, and we were proud to stand with Subaru to encourage these young minds to dream big, work hard, and believe that they can build amazing careers doing what they love.

Share the Love - Natalia M.

At Subaru, we believe the strongest communities are built on care, connection, and showing up for one another—especially for those who need it most. This year, as part of the Subaru Share the Love® Event, we were honored to present our hometown charity check to Mobile Meals. Standing alongside their team and volunteers reminded us that something as simple as a meal can carry extraordinary meaning. Mobile Meals provides more than 1,300 meals each weekday to homebound individuals across Spartanburg County. But beyond nutrition, they deliver something just as essential—human connection. Through daily visits, friendly faces, and consistent care, they bring comfort and dignity to neighbors who may otherwise face isolation. We are so proud to have Mobile Meals as our hometown charity. Their work reflects the very heart of the Subaru Love Promise: supporting people, strengthening communities, and helping ensure no one is forgotten. Because of our customers and community, the Subaru Share the Love Event continues to make a real impact year after year. This presentation wasn't just about a donation—it was about gratitude, partnership, and a shared commitment to caring for our neighbors. Together, we're not just delivering meals—we're helping deliver hope. ??

Spartanburg Loves the Earth - Natalia M.

At Subaru, we believe what we leave behind reflects who we are—and this year, that belief took root in a very tangible way within our own community. Through the Subaru Loves the Earth initiative and our continued partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation™, we were proud to play a hands-on role in something bigger than ourselves. As part of a nationwide effort to restore and preserve natural spaces, our team came together to distribute more than 1,000 trees right here in our community. What might seem like a simple act—giving away trees—quickly became something much more meaningful. Each tree represented a step toward cleaner air, cooler neighborhoods, and a healthier environment for future generations. Families, volunteers, and community members showed up eager to take part, many sharing stories of where they planned to plant their trees and who they hoped would enjoy them for years to come. This initiative is part of a larger commitment Subaru has upheld for over two decades: reducing waste, conserving resources, and protecting the natural world we all share. From zero-landfill manufacturing to nationwide tree distribution efforts, it's about taking real, measurable action. And on a local level, it's about making those efforts personal. Being part of distributing over 1,000 trees allowed us to see the direct impact of that mission. It wasn't just about numbers—it was about connection. It was about neighbors coming together, ?????? learning the importance of caring for the planet, and a shared understanding that even small actions can grow into lasting change. Through Subaru Loves the Earth, we're not just talking about sustainability—we're living it, one tree at a time. And we're proud to stand with a community that's just as committed to growing a greener, healthier future.

Living on a Miracle - Natalia M.

At Subaru, we believe that caring for our community means showing up in ways that are simple, human, and full of heart. Sometimes, it's not about large-scale events—it's about meaningful moments that remind people they are seen, supported, and not alone. Recently, our team had the opportunity to spend time giving back at the Miracle Hill shelter through Spartanburg Rescue Mission. With us, we brought four large boxes filled with tacos, sliders, pizza, and desserts—meals meant to do more than just satisfy hunger. They were meant to bring comfort, warmth, and a sense of connection. The shelter serves as a safe place for men, women, and mothers with young children who are experiencing homelessness. Beyond providing food and a place to sleep, it offers something even more important: compassion and a pathway forward. Whether guests are seeking short-term relief through the Crisis Shelter Program or working toward long-term stability in the New Life Program, the mission is clear—to restore hope and help individuals rebuild their lives. As we shared meals and conversations, we were reminded that small acts of kindness can have a powerful impact. A warm plate of food, a friendly smile, and a moment of genuine connection can help someone feel valued during a difficult time. These are the moments that reflect what the Subaru Love Promise is all about. It's not just about being part of a community—it's about caring for it. Supporting organizations like Spartanburg Rescue Mission allows us to extend that care to those who need it most, helping create a stronger, more compassionate place for everyone. Because at the end of the day, love is more than a promise—it's something you share.

Cribbs Burger Cook-Off - Natalia M.

The smell of sizzling burgers filled the air, music carried across the crowd, and laughter echoed through a community united for something far greater than a cook-off. The Cribbs Kitchen Burger Cook-off wasn't just a competition—it was a powerful reminder of what can happen when people come together with purpose. This year, we were proud to support the event as both a Paceline Sponsor and the pace car partner, standing alongside a community committed to making a real difference for children battling cancer. While the pace car typically leads the way in races, at this event it symbolized something just as meaningful: helping guide families toward hope, support, and access to care when they need it most. Children's Cancer Partners is doing essential work across the Carolinas, ensuring that no family has to choose between financial stability and lifesaving treatment. By providing assistance with lodging, transportation, and meals, they allow families to focus on what truly matters—their child's recovery. Supporting that mission is something we take seriously, because strong communities are built by showing up for one another in moments that matter most. The energy of the day was undeniable. Seventeen talented teams brought their best to the grill, friendly competition sparked excitement, and every attendee played a role in something bigger. Whether casting a vote, enjoying a meal, or simply showing support, each person contributed to an incredible outcome—over $152,000 raised to help local children and their families. Moments like these reflect what the Subaru Love Promise is all about. It's about more than being present—it's about being engaged, invested, and committed to the well-being of the communities we serve. It's about standing beside organizations like Children's Cancer Partners and helping amplify their impact. As the crowd celebrated the winners and the grills cooled down, what remained was something far more lasting than a trophy or a title. It was the knowledge that together, this community made life a little easier for families facing the unimaginable. And that's a promise worth keeping.

Fastest night in Spartanburg - Natalia M.

Under the glow of downtown Spartanburg's lights, the energy was unmistakable—cowbells ringing, crowds cheering, and cyclists slicing through the night air with precision and speed. The Crit wasn't just a race; it was a celebration of community, movement, and purpose. And this year, we were honored to be part of it in a way that truly embodied the Subaru Love Promise. As the official pace car, our Subaru led the charge—quite literally—setting the tone for a night built on safety, excitement, and connection. Guiding elite cyclists through the course wasn't just about keeping pace; it was about supporting every rider, every volunteer, and every spectator who came together for something bigger than themselves. Beyond the race, our role as a Paceline Sponsor allowed us to deepen that impact. The Crit supports PAL: Play. Advocate. Live Well., an organization committed to making Spartanburg County healthier, more active, and more connected. That mission aligns closely with what we believe: that strong communities are built when people have access to safe spaces, shared experiences, and opportunities to thrive. Throughout the evening, we saw that mission come to life. Families gathered under tents, friends cheered from the sidelines, and local businesses and organizations united around a shared goal. Whether it was someone attending their first race or a seasoned cycling fan returning for another year, The Crit created moments that mattered. Being part of this event wasn't just about showing up—it was about showing care. Care for the cyclists pushing their limits, for the community celebrating together, and for the future of a healthier Spartanburg. From leading the race to supporting PAL's ongoing work, we were proud to stand alongside an initiative that's transforming lives one mile, one meal, and one connection at a time. At Subaru, we believe love is more than a feeling—it's a promise. And at The Crit, that promise was on full display, rolling through every lap, every cheer, and every shared moment under the lights.

Winter Gala - Natalia R.

On Saturday, February 28, 2026, the community gathered at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium for An Evening in the Enchanted Forest, the 2026 Winter Gala benefiting Hope Center for Children. It was an evening centered on connection, purpose, and the shared belief that every child deserves safety, stability, and the opportunity to succeed. Guests were welcomed into a beautifully themed setting inspired by classic fairy tales, complete with immersive characters and live aerialist and stilt performances that added a sense of wonder to the night. Jamarcus Gaston served as host, guiding the program and setting the tone for an evening that was both celebratory and meaningful. After dinner, DJ Survivor kept the energy high as supporters gathered on the dance floor and enjoyed time together. One of the most powerful moments of the night came when a former child who had once gone through the system shared his story. Today, he holds a Ph.D., teaches writing at the University of Central Florida, and has written three successful books. He spoke about the challenges he faced as a young person and how having a safe place and supportive adults made all the difference. He expressed deep gratitude that children today have somewhere to go — somewhere safe — because of the work Hope Center for Children continues to do and because of the community that chooses to support it. His story was a living example of the mission in action. Formed in 2013 through the merger of The Ellen Hines Smith Girls' Home and the Children's Shelter of the Upstate, Hope Center for Children now operates six evidence-based programs focused on building stable, healthy families and providing children a refuge from abuse and neglect. The organization's name truly reflects its purpose: creating hope that lasts far beyond a child's time in care. For Subaru, being part of this event reflects the heart behind the Subaru Love Promise — showing up for our community and supporting organizations that are changing lives. Knowing that the children served today could become tomorrow's teachers, authors, leaders, and mentors makes the mission even more meaningful. The gala was a beautiful evening, but more importantly, it was a reminder. When a community invests in its children, the impact can last a lifetime — and sometimes, it even comes full circle.

When the Cold Hits, Community Rises - Natalia R.

With freezing temperatures and an ice storm expected, we were grateful to deliver coats to The Bridge on Green Street just in time. ???? Moments like this remind us how important it is to come together as a community, especially when the weather turns dangerous. Every coat represents warmth, care, and hope for someone who needs it most. Thank you to The Bridge for all you do to serve our neighbors and to everyone who helped make this possible. Stay safe and warm, Spartanburg

Subaru Loves To Help - Natalia R.

We were proud to be part of the Subaru Loves to Help event held at the Hope Center for Children in Spartanburg. This event gave us the opportunity to come together as a community to support children and families in need and help make a positive impact right here at home. Giving back is at the heart of what we do, and partnering with organizations that share that same commitment makes it even more meaningful. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a success and for allowing us to serve the Spartanburg community in a special way. ??????

Christmas Parade - Natalia R.

Under the Christmas lights of the Pacolet parade, the Subaru rolled forward, steady and sure. It wasn’t there to impress—it was there to promise. A promise to show up, year after year, for the people lining the streets. A promise to carry families safely home after the lights dimmed. A promise to brave rain, cold, and back roads without hesitation. With a tree on the roof and lights glowing softly, the Subaru moved through town like a vow in motion—dependable, present, and proud to belong. It promised to be more than a vehicle in a parade. It promised to be part of Pacolet’s story, every season, every mile. Because love doesn’t always speak. Sometimes, it promises—and keeps going. ????

Christmas Joy - Natalia R.

This holiday season, we were grateful for the opportunity to support The Bridge at Green Street Annual Christmas Shop—a remarkable effort that brings hope and holiday magic to local families. Thanks to the generosity of our team, customers, and community, we collected and delivered two full loads of unwrapped toys—bikes, puzzles, games, stuffed animals, and so much more. Every donation represented a moment of joy waiting to be unwrapped and a reminder to families that their community is standing with them. Because of your kindness, over 70 children and 26 families will experience a brighter Christmas filled with smiles, surprises, and a little extra warmth this year. ?? Moments like these remind us why giving back matters—and how powerful it is when a community comes together.

Coming Together to Celebrate Teamwork - Natalia R.

This Thanksgiving, our team gathered for a special potluck that reminded us what the Subaru Love Promise is all about—community, gratitude, and taking care of each other. Everyone brought a dish that meant something to them, from family-recipe sides to homemade desserts. As the table filled with food, our space filled with laughter, stories, and the warmth that comes from truly being part of a team. But the day was about more than sharing a meal. It was a celebration of the everyday teamwork that keeps us moving forward—helping one another during busy days, stepping in when someone needs support, and recognizing that we succeed because we rely on each other. Our Thanksgiving potluck showed that the Love Promise isn’t just something we extend to our customers and community—it lives within our team, too. By coming together, showing appreciation, and supporting one another, we continue to build a workplace where everyone belongs. This simple gathering became a reminder that when we lift each other up, we all grow stronger. And that’s the heart of the Subaru Love Promise.

No One Leaf Behind - Natalia R.

During our Mobile Meals route, where we deliver hot, nutritious meals to homebound and fragile residents throughout Spartanburg County, we’re reminded that what we offer is more than food. It is fellowship, compassion, and a moment of connection. On our route today, we noticed that one of our friends had leaves piled all around his home, making it unsafe for him to step outside for Thanksgiving. We couldn’t leave it that way. We went back to the dealership, picked up our leaf blower, and returned to clear it all for him. Because at the end of the day, we are so much more than a car company. We are a part of this community, and we take care of our own.

Upstate Strut For Childhood Cancer 5K - Natalia R.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, ran, and made a difference. ???? #SubieofSpartanburg #SubaruLovePromise #SubaruCares
